New American Development Center (NADC) is Working Seven Days a week to Address the Social and Economic Challenges of the Immigrant Community in this time of Crisis.
New American Development Center works to build a strong and vibrant African Immigrant community through sustainable community and economic development programs by leveraging resources and addressing cultural needs. Since the coronavirus outbreak, the organization has been reaching out to its community members helping them to access resources including small business loans, unemployment benefits, business and resident tenants issues, and working with nonprofits, faith, and business organization leaders to navigate and access to the available resources. Although New American Development Center (NADC) office is currently closed due to the Convid-19 epidemic, however, the organization’s staff are tirelessly working from home helping its community beneficiaries, providing critical life-saving services. The shutdown order let many small Somali immigrants own businesses that we have been providing technical assistance to be closed.
Therefore, NADC is currently helping lock down Somali businesses navigate resources, assisting small businesses to apply for emergency loans such as DEED’s culturally appropriate-no-interest and SBA loans. Also, NADC in cooperation with Imams and small businesses created hotline and email (mnsomaliconvid19taskforce@gmail.com) for reaching out to the community, gathering convid-19 issues, and collect data related to this epidemic. Furthermore, NADC is providing unemployment benefits information and applications to unemployed workers, including youth.
